So you calling Denny a fool then? I agree, it's working now. What, just because I've got nothing better to do at night but build VMs to test stuff out for people on the net?
Good luck! Not getting the warning. But good thing it seems to work, I guess ;p. Oskar Duveborn Oskar Duveborn Well, in case of stuff like Win Standard to Enterprise it's not really an upgrade, it's just adding some more features, as they are essentially the exact same operating system.
Yeah sure, it might be as little as changing a registry value to gain access to enterprise features and limits I guess Enterprise keys work for Standard Edition too. I don't have to make any changes there if I can perform the in-place upgrade to R I am sensing no way around this issue, so it looks like a complete wipe and reinstall.
Nice Microsoft It is a fresh install. If you know of an update that allows one to go from to R2 I would love a link to it because it'll save me rebuilding about 50 servers. I have a R2 key and license. I can't be the only one with this issue. I have performed in place upgrades without issue before.
This is the first time it has failed. Even Microsoft says it should work. The Windows Datacenter is the full licensed version.
I now have a R2 licensed version that I wanted to perform the in place upgrade to avoid reinstalling management software. We gave up after trying to upgrade per Microsoft's instructions and will perform the full clean install of R2 Datacenter this afternoon. Who knew a licensing terms issue would stop the process even before getting to enter the license key for the upgrade. Your daily dose of tech news, in brief. He conceived the ma I manage several M tenants all with Security Defaults enabled and in one specific tenant, for some reason, no users including Global Admins are able to create a Team directly in the Teams app using the "Join or create a team" option.
This option IS Do you take breaks or do you keep going until you complete the 6 steps of debugging? Today I overcame a, what I thought was a major problem, minor challenge. We just got don Good afternoon and welcome to today's briefing. Hope you are starting to enjoy the warmer weather up in the north it has been pretty awesome. That said Security doesn't sleep and so do we have to keep our systems and our knowledge up to date.
We have some If you're unfamiliar with Fun with Flags, it was a video blog series where Sheldon and Am It is a licensed copy from Windows. I am attempting to upgrade to a licensed copy of Windows server via mounted image on the VM. After launching setup. The option to keep existing files and upgrade is GREYED OUT with the below error message: "you are trying to upgrade to a version of windows that is different than the one installed".
I have been uninstalling all recent updates on the server r2 in hopes this will resolve the issue but have been unsuccessful so far. Any input would be greatly appreciated. You got me. Maybe "systeminfo" from a command prompt and make sure the OS name looks okay there? If it is a VM, why not just spin up a new server and just transfer data and config. If i had the choice, i would always build new instead of upgrading. EIDT: i know it does not answer the question you are asking, but it might be a better way to go in the long run.
I suppose that could be an option. The current VM running R2 contains a database and several apps that cannot be lost so an upgrade would be ideal. Could it be that the gap between r2 and is too great and must r2 must be upgraded to first? That message means exactly what it says - you are trying to upgrade to a different product line - upgrading Datacenter to Standard, etc. You've got to run an intermediate upgrade to first in order to keep the files in an upgrade to Just to be sure my old age isn't getting to me, I just mounted a iso to a R2 VM and initiated the upgrade process and the option to keep my files and stuff was available.
To make matters stranger, I've attempted an upgrade to standard as al alternate and the option to keep files is still greyed out. After re-verting VM to a previous state and selected standard desktop experience.
The option was no longer greyed out.
